The Cactus Canyon PTO has given students the opportunity to win an iPad or iPod in exchange for raising a few dollars for school programs.
The “Can You Spare a Dollar?” fundraiser encourages students to ask friend and family for a single dollar and record the donor’s name on an entry form. The entry form is completed when a student raises $10, whether it be from 10 people, one generous $10 donor, or some other combination. With each completed form, students be entered into a drawing for an iPad or iPod Nano.
Students are allowed and encouraged to complete more than one form, so the more money raised, the more chances that student has to win.
The PTO is excited to raise the money because of what it will be used for.
“We would like to use the money as wisely as we can for something that is beneficial for the entire school,” said PTO vice president Paula Koszarek. “This year we’ve implemented a new process where the teachers can download a form from our Web site to request funds for their specific needs.”
This is the second year the PTO has sponsored this fundraiser, giving away two iPads last year. Changes have been made, though, in hopes of more participation.
“We changed from $20 per entry to $10 per entry so that more people would have the opportunity to enter at least once,” Koszarek said. “As well as provide others with additional opportunities and better odds to win.”
Students are excited for this fundraiser as well, not just for the prizes, but for what the money will be used for.
“I like the fundraiser because I have used them before and I think that they are really cool!” said Baily Wright. “Even if I don’t win, I would like money to go toward cameras and equipment for my yearbook class.”
