Cactus Canyon Junior High student-athlete Bailey Klitzke is a talented softball player, but this season she’s trying a new sport. This is her first year of playing and was the first one to make a hoop in the Cougars’ first game on Jan. 24.
Considering that this is her first year, Klitzke doesn’t consider herself a great player, but knows that she has made contributions to the team.
“I wouldn’t call myself good, because I am so inexperienced,” said Klitzke. “I knew I was gonna make it because I was making the shots that others weren’t.”
While she may be a beginner, coach Dale Richardson sees a lot of potential in her game.
“She is very talented athletically, but is learning basketball,” said Dale Richardson. “She has made some big shots for us and if she continues to work and improve, she could be a very good high school basketball player. Athletically, she is good enough to be a great basketball player at the next level.”
As Klitzke has played her first year of basketball, she said she’s enjoyed the competition, the quick rush of playing the game, and looks forward to getting better.
“Once she learns to play position defense, she could shut down any player in our league, no problem,” said Richardson. “She is currently learning to shoot the ball and drive it to the basket more often, I look forward to her really contributing to our team’s overall success as the year progresses.”
