There can difficulties when transitioning from elementary to junior high. Different buildings, the different teams, and carrying a netbook are new experiences for seventh graders at Cactus Canyon Junior High, but teachers and students have said the group is handling the change quite well.
Sheryl Anderson, a seventh- and eighth-grade social studies teacher, said she has seen very good things from the newest Cougars.
“I’m pretty impressed with the seventh-grade class this year,” she said. “I am thankful that they have such a good group of eighth graders to look up to.”
Seventh graders have said they especially like having the netbooks.
“I enjoy having the netbooks,” Terry McGarran said. “Instead of carrying around all the heavy books and notebooks, you have it all in one.”
Seventh graders have enjoyed the freedom junior high allows, as well.
“I enjoy the freedom of Junior high because we have fun electives,” McGarran said.
As the year goes by, the seventh graders will continue to adapt to the changes and before they know it they will be looking forward to adapting to high school.
