The CCJH baseball team came from behind to defeat Maricopa Wells in extra innings Sept. 13 and remain undefeated.
The Panthers led 2-0 until the top of the fourth inning when the Cougars scored a run on hits by Prescott Horn and Moises Rascon before tying the game at 2-2 in the fifth. Maricopa Wells has the winning run in scoring position in the seventh inning, but Cactus Canyon turned a nifty double play to send the game to the eighth.
Nick Mohn’s steal of third base in extra innings put the Cougars in position to score immediately. They scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Panthers got one back in the bottom of the inning, but CCJH held on for a 5-3 win.
“The highlight of the game was Justin Anderson, who came into relief for Daniel Lundquest and pitched a gem,” Coach Carlos Acosta said. “(He held) Maricopa scoreless for five innings.”
The bats were led by Horn, Rascon, and Ian McIntyre who all had two hits.
“This game was close, but I believe these ones build good character” Acosta said. “Another great team victory for Cactus Canyon.”
