The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials is a movie about a group of teenagers that lost their memory and were sent into a maze to survive. However only part of the group ended up surviving and getting sent to a facility that is working for WCKD. WCKD is a World Catastrophe KillZone Department that tests teenagers for their abilities.
Scorch Trials is a science fiction, action and a thriller film. The main setting is the Scorch, which is a wasteland that is infested with cranks. Cranks are teenagers that were not immune to a flare virus. So, they got the virus and they lost their sanity, becoming a zombie like creature. They are also in the facility for a good part of the movie. The facility run by Mr. Janson, who tells the teenagers that the facility is protected from WCKD.
The main characters are Thomas, played by Dylan O’Brien, Newt, played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Teresa, played by Kaya Scodelario, Minho, played by Ki Hong Lee, and Brenda, played by Rosa Salazar.
A group of teenagers, who call themselves the Gladers, just escaped an experiment called The Maze. Armed troops then take the gladers to a facility. Thomas makes a new friend named Aris, who helps him sneak out after he begins to get suspicious about the operations going on. Thomas then learns about a group outside of the facility that is fighting against WCKD, who runs the facility. Aris then helps Thomas and his friends escape into the outside world known as The Scorch.
The movie didn’t have the best special effects. The Cranks didn’t have enough makeup or the correct clothing, so they didn’t look like they were actually infected. They also aren’t realistic enough because they were once teenagers just like the Gladers. The characters would try to joke around but and they were funny. But the jokes were put into the movie at the wrong time. They could have added more jokes to some parts and less jokes to others. The actors and actresses were good enough to tie the movie together. The directors could have gotten new actors and actresses for the characters from the previous movie and this movie.
Teenagers and adults would enjoy this movie because it has a lot of suspense and jump scares. When you get a glimpse of the cranks, you can see they look possessed.
The movie wasn’t horrible, but it could have been a lot better. I give the movie three stars out of five. There is definitely room for improvement, but I would recommend it for people around the age of 12 and older.
